    An Autobiography
    Bengal Cultural Association (Ahmedabad)

Decades ago, a group of Bengalis came to Ahmedabad with a dream of employment in the textile industry. Holding the hands of those few Bengalis the inception of Ahmedabad Kali Bari began with countless colourful dreams. Initially, the puja used to take place all around Ahmedabad - Baganbari near Laldarwaza in old Ahmedabad, Sometimes Lal Darwaja, sometimes Paldi, sometimes Vastrapur. Ahmedabad Kalibari was established in the first half of this century, with the efforts of some thoughtful and energetic Bengalis.

Over these years, it has maintained the ancient tradition through cultural, religious and family relations. For the last 72 years, the Bengal Cultural Association has been able to unite the Bengalis of Ahmedabad.

As we all know, in 1969, Ahmedabad was devastated by communal riots. At that time potters from Jaipur used to come to make idols. The awfulness of Ahmedabad reached the ears of potters, and they refused to come despite hundreds of requests. As the saying goes, "When bad times come in life, the worshipers of beauty go into exile." But some students of NID (NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN) came forward. They created the painting of 'Ma' Durga with their own brush. Blessed Bengali.

The name of Kali Temple and Bengalis are synonymous all over the world. Keeping the same in view and inspired by many non-Bengalis in Ahmedabad. The temple and the association will function not just like a worshipping platform, but also will serve as the BCA headquarters.
